Electric City Trolley Museum

A photo of Chicago, Aurora & Elgin 453 at Trolleyville USA from August 22,1993. This is one of two cars acquired by the Electric City Trolley Museum in Scranton. I took this photo out a window of a moving trolley as it passed by Trolleyville's shop area. This car is supposed to arrive in Scranton sometime in the next month or so. Hopefully we'll see it running up here in the not too distant future.

Eckley Miners Village

Looking down the main street in Eckley. October, 1998. The town only has about three streets, one is open to the public. A handful of people still live in town. The state wants to close the town and museum for the winter. This will force the remaining residents to move.

Eckley Miners Village from October, 1998. The coal breaker which looms in the background was built for the 1968 Richard Harris film "The Molly Maguires." The house in the foreground has wood siding covering up Brick-Tex siding, which was done to back date the structures that were seen in the film. After the film, the town became a state museum.

Laurel Line: Dunmore Branch

Along the Laurel Line, on the track bed, looking north. At the right is an abutment from the Erie Railroad, in the distance on the left is the Erie's Dunmore Locomotive Shops. The Dunmore Branch continued a short distance north from this point. The heavy growth makes it hard to navigate. The branch was abandoned in October, 1945.

Laurel Line: Dunmore Branch

A stone retaining wall along a small portion of the Laurel Line's Dunmore Branch. Judging by the age of this, it could date back to the gravity railroad era. This is located just off the north end of Joseph Street in Dunmore.

Erie Railroad: Wyoming Division

Looking towards the west another bridge pier can be seen. This section of the Erie comes after the meeting of the Haines (aka East) Junction and West Junction branches. This line crosses over the Laurel Line, and the Lackawanna Railroad, eventally heading into the Erie's Dunmore Yard. The Dunmore Branch of the Laurel Line was abandoned in October 1945. This area also is pretty heavily overgrown! In the distance the Erie's former Locomotive shop building can be seen.

Just off the north end of Joseph Street in Dunmore are remains of where the Erie Railroad crossed over the Laurel Line's Dunmore Branch. This photo was taken from the former right-of-way of the Laurel Line.
